Excerpt from chapter 1
I look back down at the bed. She's still asleep, breathing shallow, a slumbering angel. The girl of my age lies naked beneath the light sheets, her oriental skin is soft and perfect whilst long black hair splays out over her shoulders. I don't wake her when I leave; I don't know her name; maybe she doesn't even have one.
I'm not sure what I was expecting when I opened the door, but a picturesque bamboo forest bathed in moonlight and whispering with a slight wind was certainly not it. I'm in awe as I carefully close the door behind me and step out into the world. The full moon drapes a slivery light over the dead straight trunks of bamboo, some of which reach a foot in diameter.
I look around for a sense of purpose.
